Manufacturing Engineer 

The selected candidate will be a highly motivated individual who is willing to accept a wide variety of work assignments in an interdisciplinary environment supporting the process of capturing system and subsystem performance requirements for the test & measurement and military/aerospace markets. The candidate will validate these requirements and integrate them into our production manufacturing process. 

 

Performance Objectives 

  • Participate in the mechanical and structural design, development, and testing of highly reliable, ruggedized, fieldable data recorders and analysis systems.
  • Translate engineering design requirements into formal manufacturing process documentation.
  • Achieve results directly related to program delivery schedules, Company financial performance, product quality and reliability, and other aspects of meeting contractual requirements.
  • Identify and build relationships with third party suppliers on new designs to ensure what is being sold is manufacturable and production ready.
  • Participate in design reviews to evaluate Design for Manufacture (DFM), Assembly (DFA) and/or Test (DFT).
  • Collaborate with the Engineering team in releasing new products and provide guidance in design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
  • Provide engineering liaison to the Production team.
  • Write detailed work instructions for building complete products from issue of raw material through manufacture to final inspection.
  • Integrate bill of materials (BOM) into manufacturing process.
  • Ensure that the product can be integrated and assembled efficiently and within budget.
  • Calculate MTBF analysis at the component level.
  • Coordinate with the Production team to conduct prototype or experimental runs for products in-house or at contract manufacturers.
  • Oversee projects using risk management techniques, planning and managing the incorporation of design changes and leading cost reduction and process improvement initiatives, performance monitoring, customer and supplier interface, product cost improvement, disposition of non-conforming and end-of-life hardware items, analyze RMAs to research trends, and lead corrective action preventing reoccurrence.  

Experience 

  • Proven track record of converting ideas into working designs, which are feasible, cost-effective, and manufacturable.
  • Must possess demonstrated experience involving technical problem solving, working effectively under general supervision, consistently bringing sound organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively, both interpersonally and via presentations.
  • Previous work experience with Design for Manufacture (DFM), Assembly (DFA) and/or Test (DFT).
  • Production test experience is required (high mix, low volume).
  • Direct experience with performing hardware first article inspections, conducting work instruction (assembly planning) audits, and supervising hardware prove-ins is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in an ISO9000 environment.
  • A BS/MSME degree and no less than 5 years relevant and successful experience in the integration of electrical and mechanical components of highly reliable, ruggedized, fieldable systems.

Configuration Control Specialist

The Configuration Control Specialist is responsible for the activities required to implement configuration management (CM) related activities on multiple projects under the direction of the QC/Test Manager.  

 

Performance Objectives 

  • Develop, document, and execute configuration management plans and procedures to effectively identify, manage changes to, and report status of product designs and custom engineering solutions. This function covers both software and hardware issues in a development and production environment.
  • Implement an automated configuration management system that integrates version control, traceability, tracking, and build management functions.
  • Conduct and follow up on multiple meetings to ensure that:
    • Required features and fixes are being built into loads according to schedule.
    • Software modification requests are tracked and driven to closure.
    • Hardware issues are documented and driven to closure (non conformances principally).
    • Work orders are created and driven to closure. These issues address production issues according to the production schedule. 
  • Create weekly reports tracking progress on hardware and software issues, including close/open rates, average age, late issues, and time to closure. Work with the management team to continue to develop metrics as the process matures and improves. 
  • Coordinate engineering change notices (ECNs) and engineering change proposals (ECPs) with all stakeholders.
  • Maintain and continually improve automated build processes for hardware and software, ensuring that builds work consistently across products.
  • Develop and improve the package and production release infrastructure that effectively handles change.
  • Ensure deployed hardware and software, as well as internal testing environments, meet supported configuration standards.
  • Coach and mentor the development teams in the published configuration control processes, and ensure that the teams comply with the processes.
  • Maintain a structured document repository that is efficient, effective, and meets the Company’s quality objectives.
  • Effectively troubleshoot configuration-related problems in all environments; monitor and report status of configuration management activities.

Experience 

  • Experience with quality processes (ISO-9001:2008).
  • Ability to develop and implement configuration management plans and instructions.

Systems Engineer 

The selected candidate plays a key role in the design and deployment of systems, and focuses on (1) defining customer needs and required functionality, (2) documenting requirements, system designs, and test plans in a clear and concise manner that can be handed-off to another party for build, (3) validating the system built against the customer requirements, and (4) ensuring solutions are correct, reliable and on time through concise planning and execution.  

 

Performance Objectives 

  • Work with cross functional teams during the proposal phase to identify engineering and material cost estimates required to obtain the best solution that meets DSPCon’s visionary goal and customer requirements.
  • Effectively flow down system-level requirements and designs to the engineering staff and provide oversight in the development of lower level software requirements and designs.
  • Oversee quality of work being produced against schedule and the use of resources to complete the project.
  • Prioritize development activities to ensure tasks are completed with quality, in a timely manner, and within the budget.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by engaging customer in technical discussions, managing customer expectations, communicating designs and plans to customer, and gaining customer acceptance.
  • Represent systems engineering at configuration control meetings, software design reviews, system/software integration and acceptance tests, and technical interchange meetings.
  • Formulate and review project plans, subcontracting, and deliverable items, while determining contract costs and ensuring conformity with contract terms and conditions.

  • Working knowledge of system engineering processes, such as requirements analysis, trade-study, risk identification and management, and interface management.

Lead Software Engineer

Contribute to the Company's success in the test & measurement and military/aerospace markets by developing embedded and/or desktop software components and applications for real-time, multi-threaded systems.

DSPCon employees collectively contribute to the Company's business objectives by achieving exceptional results. As a member of the Engineering team, the Lead Software Engineer is involved in all product/project life-cycle stages, including design, coding, integration, testing, and maintenance.

A Lead Software Engineer will accept ownership of the software applications, including those of other team members, being designed and modified to support a project. The Lead Software Engineer will be responsible for the technical adequacy of the project software. 

 

Performance Objectives

  • Meet with the project team leader, fellow engineers, and other key individuals and departments associated with the project to determine the status of the project and where this position fits into the overall scope of the project. Learn everything necessary to complete the software module assigned to this position and demonstrate an understanding.
  • Develop and/or review a project plan for development of the models assigned to this position, outlining key project milestones and time to completion. This includes identifying user requirements, preparation of use cases, development of critical paths and dependency relationships, and project challenges. Incorporate these into the plan.  
  • Lead discussions with the design team in order to develop and submit a comprehensive design concept for formal review. This includes software models, layout modules, objects, and process map. This plan needs to meet key functional requirements.
  • Review existing code for the project and recommend modifications for upgrading and improvement. Develop a time-phased plan of action to complement the proposed changes.
  • Complete detailed coding implementation and validate to meet project deadlines. The code should be optimal in terms of the system performance, code readability, and the use of the system resources. This includes unit testing and preparation of complete design documentation. Inform the project team leader ahead of time if the project deadlines cannot be met.  
  • Expect major technical issues and challenges in this position. Be in a position to present a series of alternative approaches and lead the product design reviews. During this presentation, address alternative approaches, methods used to assess these alternatives, the impact on the project schedules, and additional resources required, if any. 
  • During the design phase, continually test code for functionality and optimize for performance to insure the code meets project standards. Develop the software test plans and procedures. Take initiative  on coordinating this effort with the software quality assurance team and assist with all troubleshooting needs and debugging efforts. Ensure that all required design changes are completed in a timely manner to meet the overall project schedule.  
  • Complete assignments on modification requests (MRs) in no more than two months.

  Experience

  • Must have experience and desire to perform in lead engineer capacity; accepting responsibility for the technical adequacy and schedule of software engineering team members.
  • Must have solid software engineering skills to implement complex applications on various industry-standard workstations and embedded platforms; e.g., MS-Windows, Linux, VxWorks. 
  • Must have extensive knowledge of MS-Windows operating system and APIs.
  • Must be proficient in C and C++. Familiarity with manage code languages like C# is desired.
  • Experience developing MS-Windows device drivers, DLLs, ActiveX controls and other object-oriented software components. 
  • Exceptional organizational skills, self-motivation, a sense of urgency, sensitivity to deadlines, and a detail-oriented style required.

Director of Finance

Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Finance will plan, develop, organize, implement, direct, and evaluate the Company's fiscal function and performance.   

 

 Performance Objectives

  • Develop/maintain timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial statements, job and project profitability and financial trends.
  • Interpret and communicate the final monthly financial package with the executive team on the third business day of each month.
  • Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism which includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs.
  • Evaluate and advise on the impact of long range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies and regulatory requirements.
  • Enhance and/or develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the corporation, including internal controls.
  • Establish credibility throughout the organization and with the Board as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges.
  • Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision making issues affecting the Company; e.g., evaluation of potential alliances, acquisitions and/or mergers and investments.
  • Optimize the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position.
  • Be an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts into which the Company may enter.
  • Supervision and evaluation of the finance division structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as providing individuals with professional and personal growth with emphasis on opportunities (where possible) for individuals.
  • Proactively maintain relationships with the external CPA firm, bank, Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA), and other appropriate financial organizations.
  • Evaluate the services provided by external CPA firm to ensure that the needs of the Company are being met and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Coordinate timely, accurate external CPA audit with no surprises. Also coordinate timely tax planning and year end tax return preparation.
